We know that your child's bedtime is sacred and that a baby who sleeps peacefully grows and processes better, what he learned during the day, inside his brain.
However, we are not exempt from tantrums and crying, making the process of putting them to sleep much more difficult, the good news is that there are different techniques that allow them to fall asleep in a jiffy.
Today we will talk about a technique that has become more popular over the years: white noise.
It is a technique that began to tread strongly in the nineties, when researchers conducted a study in which they subjected 40 babies to the stimulus of white noise and found that 80% of them fell asleep in the first ten minutes of listening to them versus the control group babies who took a little longer to fall asleep under normal conditions.
In a 2017 study it was proven that babies exposed to white noise end up crying less hours per day and resting for more hours per night, sometimes parents accompany it with a slight rocking, either in the crib or in their arms and the duo creates a pleasant and effective sensation to fall asleep.
But you may wonder, what is white noise? Beforehand we tell you that it is one of the most common sounds in our daily life, the noise of the hair dryer, the hood or kitchen extractor, even a TV channel not tuned.
White noise is made up of flat, constant sounds that blend in with the ambient audio. Its power and loudness are uniform, allowing the isolation of other noises, even favoring concentration and rest.
The key for the technique to work is to make sure that the noise is no louder than 50 decibels and that the source of the noise is far enough away from the baby's sensitive ear. Doctors advise placing these devices or stuffed animals with white noise on a small table at least a couple of meters away from the baby.
The effect of the white noise calms the baby and prevents him from becoming anxious, but like any technique it has its pros and cons.
Here we list some of its benefits, among them that decreases noise pollution, causes a sense of well-being depending on the type of white noise to choose, whether ocean waves, soft beats, sounds of nature, among others.
At the same time, it lowers the heart rate, helping the baby to relax.
In fact, in different intensive care units it is often used to mask the sounds produced by pumps, machines and medical devices, so that babies sleep more hours per night.
The only contraindication in this case is that the baby becomes too accustomed to the noise, becoming dependent on it for sleep.
It is recommended to make use of this resource with caution, caution and moderation, always accompanying it with good sleeping habits and hygiene of the child, taking care that his room is ventilated, at a pleasant temperature, with the pillows that are recommended according to his age, dark enough for him to reach an optimal rest.
