The cold months are approaching, so one of the biggest doubts that parents have regarding their children's clothing is: will they be sufficiently protected, will I be over-dressing them, will I be over-dressing them?
So you don't have to worry about these questions, we have prepared a simple guide for you to know how to dress them during this season.
The first rule is to take into account the age of your child, a newborn or a baby of months is not the same as a school-age child or a teenager.
In newborns, thermoregulation is much more precarious and immature, so you have to wrap them thoroughly. By this we mean that by putting two more garments on them than on a child, we can protect them. Especially between 0 months and one year of life.
In the coldest months it is essential to cover their nose and mouth to warm the air they breathe, thus preventing sudden changes in temperature that can trigger colds or seasonal flu.
Long live layers!
Just as you read, layers help protect your children from the cold while ensuring that you can remove clothing if it gets too warm. Use natural fibers, synthetics are not very warm and also do not allow the skin to perspire as it should.
If the plan is to enjoy a vacation in snowy environments, thermal and waterproof clothing is the salvation, this will allow them to be warm without the snow doing its thing. Doctors recommend not to use polar pajamas because they prevent perspiration, causing the child to sweat and when the temperature changes abruptly, he/she may get sick.
It is necessary that the clothes fit very well to the body, that the gloves and socks fit properly and that the caps or hats that we use can protect the head of our little ones in the best way.
Think also that layers allow your child to be free to do without any of them if they feel overheated, they themselves can take off scarves or heavy coats, prefer fibers and fabrics that guarantee the mobility of your little one so that they are comfortable and enjoy a lot even when the temperature drops.
Make sure the layers are light, so that the 'insulating' effect is generated between one layer and another. It will be preferable to keep them warm with a light sweater, a shirt and then a jacket, rather than using only a heavy coat.
Thermal garments will always be the first layer that is put on the little one, either in pants and long sleeve shirt. Then it is advisable to incorporate Polar Wool or Polar Fleece style garments, which are specially designed for this function.
Remember that the winter coat should be loose enough to allow him freedom of movement, but it should be in his size to make sure it covers him well enough. If your child is restless and tends to lose hats and gloves, some coats have built-in buttons or zippers to adjust them and prevent any of them from getting lost in the little one's gait.
Make sure that the winter footwear is suitable for those temperatures and wet and slippery terrain, if you use double socks, make sure they can move their toes freely inside the shoe to avoid circulatory problems.
Check constantly your child's body temperature, check if he/she has red or whitish spots on the skin that may be a sign of numbness or intense cold, if so, put him/her in a warm environment, make sure the air is not too dry and keep him/her hydrated, not only with liquids but also using a moisturizing cream that avoids dryness due to cold.
