Unlike adults, baby hair grows slowly, however there are some tricks that can help it grow healthy, strong and in the best possible way.
Baby hair grows approximately 7 millimeters per month on average.
It is normal for babies to be born bald or with fuzz, peach fuzz or little hair, but from the time they are born until they are about three years old, their heads will be covered with the hair they will have for the rest of their lives, taking into account that the hair growth process does not stop, but is progressive.
Let's also remember that the growth depends on whether our baby has dark or light hair, light hair takes a little longer and its growth tends to be less noticeable, it tends to be less evident. Remember that each baby has a unique hair growth pattern.
The way to be concerned about the baby's hair growth is if after the first year of life it is weakened or does not grow normally and strong, if we observe some 'bald patches' or areas of the scalp that have no hair strands, if the scalp skin is sensitive, broken, with any fungus or signs of dandruff. Alopecia aerata is a very common indicator of some common clinical or pathological conditions, such as Down syndrome, some autoimmune syndromes, celiac disease, type 1 diabetes mellitus.
If this is not the case, then we will just have to be patient. Otherwise, a visit to the pediatrician and dermatologist is imperative.
We have already ruled out any pathology, but the hair still does not grow, what can I do?
Brush your hair with a soft bristle brush suitable for babies and approved by the pediatrician, this will not only distribute the natural oils of the scalp to moisturize and strengthen the strand but will stimulate this massage -with your hands or the brush- the scalp cells and hair follicles.
Reinforce hair nutrition with coconut oil and vitamin E, after consultation with the pediatrician.
Wash the hair regularly and using special baby shampoo. A clean, hydrated and healthy scalp will be a perfect environment for a spectacular hair.
In the case of girls, avoid the use of headbands, ponytails, bows or tight buns, especially with wet hair because they weaken and damage it.
Remember that during the first six months the baby will lose that ''fetal fleece'' to give way to the hair with which it will live from now on.
