¿Cómo son estos reflejos?
El bebé se sobresalta al sentir que pierde apoyo o al cambiarse de posición de manera brusca, así que mueve las manos, tensa hombros y espalda, abre los ojitos como asustado, pudiendo romper a llorar en algunos casos. Sus manitos y dedos comienzan a moverse -abriendo y cerrando los puños-, retrae los brazos hacia el cuerpo, pega los codos, hasta que empieza a calmarse.
En los primeros meses de vida, notar estos reflejos es clave para descartar algún daño neuronal o en médula espinal del infante, podría indicar también alguna lesión o fractura en la clavícula. La presencia de este reflejo indica que nuestro bebé está perfectamente sano y su desarrollo es normal.

En líneas generales estos sobresaltos se caracterizan por ser rítmicos, se repiten de la misma manera, afectan comúnmente partes de su cuerpo como cabeza, tronco o extremidades. No duran más de veinte segundos y obedecen a la poca madurez muscular que tienen los bebés.
Solemos dividirlos en cuatro movimientos básicos:
Head banging: el bebé golpea la almohada o el colchón con la cabecita, bien sea de lado, con la frentecita o la nuca.
Head rolling: mueve la cabecita hacia los lados.
Bodyrolling: mueve su cuerpito a todos lados. Se rueda en el colchoncito o la cama.
Bodyrocking: el bebito se duerme moviendo su cuerpito, mientras se mece por sí mismo.
Las razones para que esto ocurra son variadas, desde imitar los gestos de sus padres al mecerlo o acunarlo, hasta espasmos que el bebé realiza para relajarse o calmarse.
Sin embargo, hay que saber diferenciarlos de ataques epilépticos o convulsiones, estos últimos se mantienen aun cuando el bebé está despierto, los espasmos de sueño cesan al despertar al bebé.
